Introduction to Hair Transplant Surgery

Hair transplantation dates back to the 1950’s in North America, with Dramatic advancements taking place in the 90’s both in procedure and instrumentation. These advancements have produced natural – looking results for the hair transplant patient.

Over the last 10 years, artistic and technical developments, with the use of more and more grafts as well as smaller grafts have made transplanted hair undistinguishable from natural hair.*

For Men and Women Receding, Thinning or Balding

Hair transplantation is no longer exclusive to men! Hair loss and thinning for women can be devastating.

Over 15% of women experience noticeable hair loss that requires extra grooming time to conceal. There has been a dramatic increase in the number of female patients who are seeking help for hair loss and thinning. Women are now able to achieve the look they want. A fuller look can result from as little as one session, restoring not only the hairline, but more importantly self confidence.*

Hair Transplant Surgery

Hair transplantation is a medical procedure that involves the redistribution of permanently growing hair from a donor area at the sides and back of the scalp. These follicles are genetically programmed to continue to grow and are unaffected by the hormones causing baldness. Once transplanted to the thinning or balding areas, these hairs will continue to grow for a lifetime. Hair transplantation uses your own naturally growing hair! Skin containing the permanently growing hair is removed from the donor area and divided into naturally occurring follicular units containing naturally growing hair.*

Dr. Cole uses his skill and artistry to reposition these permanently growing hairs at precise angles with natural randomness to ensure that you can groom your restored hair any way you want. Using your own hair ensures that the colour and texture of the transplanted hair is exactly the same as your existing hair. You can wash, cut, perm, style and colour your own naturally growing, redistributed hair.*

You can engage in any activity swimming, biking, golfing, sailing, playing sports, etc. with confidence. Your transplanted hair is permanent, and once it begins to grow, it will grow for a lifetime.*

The Strip Method of Hair Transplantation

During this process, skin containing the permanently growing hair is harvested from the donor area of the back and side of the scalp, and divided into its naturally occurring follicular units containing 1-4 hairs.

Smaller follicular units containing 1-2 hairs are used to create a natural hairline in balding frontal areas. Follicular units containing 2-4 hairs are used over the rest of the balding scalp to create a combination of naturalness and fullness.*

Stereoscopic Microscope Dissection and Backlighting Technique

Another revolutionary improvement to the hair transplant procedure has been the incorporation of stereoscopic magnification and backlighting to assist in providing high quality follicular unit grafts. The backlight is an illuminated surface on which grafts are dissected.

Magnification and backlighting increase the precision of determining robust follicular unit grafts. The improved visibility reduces the risk of damage to the follicles while they are being prepared for transplantation.
