Smoothing lines and wrinkles, creating more defined or fuller lips, or shaping, contouring, and sculpting the face can be achieved with injectable dermal fillers. Softening smile lines (naso-labial folds), marionette lines (that go from the corner of your lips downwards towards your jaw), and filling in deeper acne scars, can take years off your appearance. There are a variety of fillers that are available. The one best suited for you will be assessed by Dr. Cole and/or his registered nurse. They will assist you in deciding which product(s) will offer you the best results.

 Juvederm™, Teosyal™, Restylane™
These are the fillers we use the most. They are all hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers. They are the latest and most effective options for restoring facial fullness, more youthful contours, and reducing wrinkles. HA is injected in the form of a colourless gel. It gives the face a smoother and more youthful looking appearance by softening fine lines and wrinkles by injecting it more superficially. It can also be injected more deeply to restore lost facial fat volume that occurs with time. HA is hydrophilic, meaning that it attracts water, and thus improves the fullness and hydration of the skin and underlying tissues. When hyaluronic acid is cross linked, the molecules become larger and more difficult for the body to remove. After an injection of these cross linked forms of HA, it will remain in the tissue for months to years to restore fullness or reduce facial lines and wrinkles.
What makes these products so safe is that they are reversible. The HA filler injections can be reversed in a matter of minutes with an injection of hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks the cross links of the HA, making it extremely safe and removable. This helps to reduce the apprehension of our patients when considering these products for cosmetic enhancements.

How
long do the products last?
The effects may last up to 2 years, depending on the product used. Results depend on many factors, such as your age, skin type, area of the face treated, lifestyle and which product has been used in treatment.
How
soon will I need another treatment?
Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment 6-12 months after the initial treatment. After lip treatments, a touch up is usually desired after about 6 months. The procedure can be repeated as often as you like, within reason.
What
is the treatment like?
Tiny amounts of the clear gel are injected into the skin with a very fine needle. The gel returns more volume to the skin and subcutaneous structures, and smoothes the surface. No pre-testing is needed, and a session often takes less than thirty minutes. Pain relief is generally not necessary. Most of our fillers now contain a local anaesthetic, which has improved the comfort of the treatment.
After the treatment there may be some swelling, redness, tenderness, itching, or possibly bruising at the injection site. These conditions resolve spontaneously in 1-4 days after the treatment. |
