Injectable Fillers

Smoothing wrinkles and folds, or giving your lips a fuller, more sensuous form or shaping, contouring and sculpting the face can be achieved with injectable fillers. Softening smile lines (naso-labial folds), softening marionette lines (that go from the corner of your lips downwards towards your jaw), and filling in deep acne scars can take years off your appearance. There are a variety of fillers that are available, and the one best suited for you will be assessed by Dr. Cole and/or his registered nurse. They will assist you with making decisions regarding which product or combination thereof will offer you the best results.

Below you will find an explanation of some of the products used for wrinkle reduction and lip augmentation, as well as a gallery showing the results.

Restylane, Restylane Fine Lines, & Perlane

The products give shape with the body’s own natural material called hylauronic acid. The injectables bind with water in your skin to lift and give new firmness. This treatment gives you a long-lasting, natural enhancement. Hylauronic acid is one of the very few substances that is identical in all species and tissue types. Thus, it can be used in many medical applications. This product line is non-animal, stabilized hylauronic acid-based and requires no pre-testing. All are temporary fillers and last 4-6 months. Perlane is used for facial contouring, correcting deep folds and wrinkles, as well as lip augmentation.

Radiesse
This is used for soft tissue augmentation. It is the first injectable implant composed of microscopic calcium (calcium hydroxylapatite CaHA) particles suspended in an aqueous gel carrier. Its safe and compatible materials have the same mineral component found naturally in the human body and teeth. Radiesse does not cause an allergic reaction in the skin and can be injected without pre-testing. This product is meant for shaping, contouring and sculpting the face. Results should last 2 years.

Juvederm

This is the latest in dermal filler options brought to you by Allergan, the makers of Botox cosmetic. It is hyaluronic acid (HA) in the form of a colourless gel-it gives the face a smooth and natural looking appearance by softening fine lines and wrinkles, and restoring lost volume. Juvederm injectable smooth gel employs its patented HYLACROSS technology to provide one of the highest concentrations of cross-linked HA of any currently available HA dermal fillers for long lasting results (6-9 months). No allergy test is required. It can be used for all areas of the face. The amount of filler needed will be determined during the consultation process.

Evolence

Evolence is based on collagen, which throughout two decades of use, has maintained an excellent safety record as an injectable beauty treatment. It has also undergone additional extensive safety testing. It is a natural product and due to the Glymatrix technology, it is able to mimic the properties of the natural collagen found in the skin. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity, particularly known allergies to collagen, should inform the doctor or nurse injector.

FAQ’s ABOUT FILLERS

How long do the products last?
The effects may last up to 2 years, depending on the product used. Results depend on many factors, such as your age, skin type, lifestyle and which product has been used in treatment.

How soon will I need another treatment?
Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment six to twelve months after the initial treatment. After lip treatments, a follow-up is normally needed after about six months. The procedure can be repeated as often as you like.

What is the treatment like?
Dr. Cole or his nurse will inject crystal-clear gel into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The gel gives natural volume and smoothes the surface. No pre-testing is needed in most cases, and a session often takes less than thirty minutes. For wrinkle treatments, no pain relief is generally necessary; however, it can be easily arranged upon request. Any discomfort experienced when enhancing the lips can be relieved with the use of a local anesthetic. After the treatment, some common injection-related reactions may occur, such as swelling, redness, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the injection site. These conditions resolve spontaneously in one to four days after the treatment.
