Skin Rejuvenation : Face Peels

There are many methods of peeling and removing the layers of skin to achieve mild to moderate results in terms of reducing wrinkles, pigmentation, redness, sun damage, scars, and acne. This section explains the gentle methods of exfoliating and peeling skin. We have a new and advanced SilkPeel™ with the option of dermal infusion fluids to treat and hydrate your skin along with the exfoliation. A more traditional crystal based microdermabrasion is also available, as well as chemical peels, which can go from a gentle peel, to an aggressive and deeper peel.

SilkPeel™ : Patient Education

SilkPeel™ with Dermal Infusion™
SilkPeel is a new, breakthrough procedure that combines precision exfoliation/microdermabrasion with the infusion of medicated liquids into the skin to address patient-specific skin conditions. Operating on a closed-loop vacuum system, the diamond treatment head exfoliates the skin while delivering a medicated treatment fluid at a controlled intensity.

SilkPeel is the most dynamic skin treatment available today. It is the only procedure featuring Dermalinfusion™, with delivery of skin-specific solutions, leaving patients with fresher-feeling and better-looking skin. The SilkPeel stimulates new cell growth and addresses your specific skin condition, giving your skin the revitalization you want.

SilkPeel is a safe, painless, and pleasant procedure allowing our patients to achieve optimum results on an accelerated basis without any downtime or discomfort. This treatment takes only 20 minutes to perform and allows an immediate return to normal activities. Your skin will have a warm, pinkish glow that will usually fade in about 30 minutes, leaving your skin looking healthy and renewed. While you may see visible results after the first treatment, lasting and more significant results will be seen after 4 to 6 treatments spaced 7 to 10 days apart, supplemented by a daily post-care routine.

We will choose one or more of our specialized treatment serums, formulated to address a variety of skin conditions. The solution doesn't just sit on top of your skin like that of a lotion or cream. Instead, the patented SilkPeel hand piece deeply delivers the vitamins, antioxidants and other therapeutic ingredients that your skin needs most. The formulations are pushed into the skin with pressure where they will be most effective in brightening, clarifying, and hydrating your skin. Multiple serums can be paired together, to provide you with a customized regimen that completely targets your skin's individual needs.

The current family of treatment solutions includes:

1) Brightening Formula: for moisturizing dry, flaky patches or fine lines and wrinkles. It contains the powerful trio of Kojic Acid, Arbutin and Mulberry. These ingredients work together to protect the skin and brightening blotchy or red patches that have been overexposed to the sun.

2) Clarifying Formula: for clarifying oily, blemish prone, or acne prone skin. Salicylic acid remains the primary ingredient in this clarifying solution. Aloe extract has been added so that patients with even the most sensitive, acne prone skin, now have an option that is both soothing and effective.

3) Hydrating Formula: hyaluronic acid remains the primary ingredient in this solution. Hyaluronic acid combined with other powerful humectants deliver rich, nutritive moisturization to quench even the thirstiest skin.

Microdermabrasion using crystals (MD Peel)
Crystal microdermabrasion systems have been the traditional treatment of choice. The MD Peel performs the exfoliation process by using adjustable suction to the treatment tip. This determines the depth of the peel, by regulating the blasting force of the tiny crystals against your skin. Our crystal MD Peel device gives effective treatments, especially when used on a regular basis.

Chemical Face Peels
Chemical peels use acidic solutions that causes the surface skin layers to slough and peel off. A treatment can be superficial and mild in nature, or deeper with more profound results that require a longer recovery time. The regenerated skin underneath is usually smoother, less wrinkled, and less pigmented than the previous skin. This can be used a less expensive alternative to our laser resurfacing systems.

Types of Chemical Peels
Different types and strengths of acids are used to remove different depths of the surface layers of the skin. The acids also remove and irritate cells of the deeper layers of skin to various degrees to achieve smoother looking skin, both in texture and colour:

1) Alpha hydroxy acid peels Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are naturally occurring organic acids such as glycolic acid, a natural constituent of sugar cane juice and lactic acid, found in sour milk and tomato juice. This is the mildest of the peel formulas and produces light peels for treatment of fine wrinkles, areas of dryness, uneven pigmentation and acne. AHA peels may cause stinging, skin redness, mild skin irritation, dryness, and require multiple treatments for desired results.

2) Beta hydroxy acid peels It is becoming common for beta hydroxy acid (BHA) peels to be used instead of the stronger alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) peels due to BHA's ability to get deeper into the pores than AHA. Studies show that BHA peels control oil, acne as well as remove dead skin cells to a certain extent better than AHA.Salicylic acid is an organic, beta hydroxy acid that is often used.

3) Trichloroacetic acid peels Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) is used as an intermediate to deep peeling agent in concentrations ranging from 10-50%. Depth of penetration is increased as concentration increases, with 50% TCA penetrating into the deep dermis. Concentrations higher than 35% are not recommended because of the increased down time and risks of scarring.
